## Frequently Asked Questions
### General
Q: Is Servo free to use? A: Yes. Servo is free, contains no ads, and does not sell user data.
Q: Which countries does Servo support? A: Servo currently focuses exclusively on New Zealand petrol stations. Support for additional regions may come in the future.
Q: Do I need an account to use Servo? A: No. Browsing stations and prices works without an account. An account is needed to submit price updates, report incorrect data, and track reports.
### Prices & Stations
Q: Why does a station show an outdated price? A: Fuel prices are community-contributed structured observations from direct Servo submissions and authorized community imports. Current-price screens exclude observations older than thirty days, but displayed observations can still be incomplete or incorrect. Reopen the station to load the latest available observation. If it is wrong, tap Report, choose Incorrect fuel price, and select the exact price.
Q: How do I submit a price update? A: Open any station → tap Update Price → either take/select a photo of the price board, or enter the price manually. A valid submission may become visible after server-side format, range, account, and rate-limit checks, and remains subject to reporting and moderation.
Q: How do I report an incorrect price or station problem? A: Open the station and tap Report. Sign in if requested, choose the exact displayed price or station issue, select a reason, and submit. Servo aims to perform the first review within 24 hours. You can see the safe status and outcome in Profile → My Reports. Your identity and private details are not shown to the price contributor or other users.
Q: A station I know is missing. Can you add it? A: Yes — please email us with the station name, brand, and approximate location, and we’ll add it in the next data sync.
Q: What do the colored dots next to each fuel type mean? A: They follow the standard nozzle colors used at NZ pumps — green for 91, red for 95, black for diesel, etc. — so you can identify fuel types at a glance.
### Location & Permissions
Q: Servo isn’t showing nearby stations. A: Check that location access is enabled: Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Servo → “While Using the App”. Servo uses your location for nearby station sorting and Widget results. The last known location and selected radius are stored locally for the Widget; coordinates may also accompany a price submission as described in the Privacy Policy.
Q: Can I use Servo without granting location access? A: Yes. You can search and browse stations manually without sharing your location.
### Photos & Price Submissions
Q: Why does Servo ask for photo library access? A: Only when you choose to submit a price update with an existing photo. Servo never accesses your library otherwise.
Q: Does Servo send every price-board photo to an AI service? A: No. Servo first tries to recognise prices entirely on your device. If that is not sufficient, Servo asks before sending the photo through our backend to Google Gemini. You can choose AI for that photo only, remember Always Use AI, or choose Enter Manually. If you enable the default AI option, later photos that local recognition cannot read are processed automatically. You can turn the option off at any time in Profile → Settings to return to being asked each time. Servo processes the resized JPEG in memory and does not save a backend copy in Supabase Storage. Photos are not displayed publicly. Google’s handling of the transmitted image is governed by its privacy terms.
Q: Why does the Update Prices page say the camera is unavailable? A: Camera access has been denied or restricted, so Servo will not open the camera automatically. Open Settings → Servo → Camera to enable access. You can still choose an existing photo or enter prices manually.
### Account & Sign In
Q: I can’t sign in. A: Make sure you’re connected to the internet and that your credentials are correct. If the issue persists, please email us with the exact error message you see.
Q: How do I delete my account? A: Open Servo → Profile → About Servo → Account → Delete Account. This deletes your account details, preferences, confirmations, reports, and original fuel-price observations you submitted, then signs you out. Apple users are asked to authorize Apple once more so Servo can revoke the Apple token before deletion. If you cannot access the App, email alex.pengfei.wang@gmail.com from the address linked to your account with the subject Account deletion request.
### Offline Use
Q: Does Servo work without internet? A: Yes. Servo caches stations and prices locally, so you can browse the most recent data even with no signal. New prices will sync automatically once you’re back online.
